Since 2004, Queensville Montessori Academy has been educating children in a beautifully renovated farmhouse in the quiet, rural hamlet of Queensville. We are minutes from Newmarket, Sharon, Keswick, Bradford and Mount Albert and the school is easily and quickly accessible from the 404. The school grounds are private and secure and are filled with lush gardens, a natural playground with a gazebo and engaging outdoor learning areas. A beautiful cedar greenhouse is our newest addition and is a wonderful space for our young gardeners to develop their appreciation for nature.
Our classrooms are prepared environments designed to encourage children in their self-directed discovery of the world. The learning environment nurtures the developmental needs of the child and creates a supportive climate of self-direction through purposeful involvement. Scientifically developed materials and activities encourage children to develop a love of learning and trust in their own ability to learn. Classrooms are set up in such a way as to encourage independence as the “child’s nature is to aim directly and energetically at functional independence” (Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind). Our classrooms are vibrant learning communities where the children holistically develop their minds (intellectual), bodies (physical) and spirits (social-emotional).
The design of the school is based on the principles of simplicity, beauty and order. Each area inside the school is bright, warm and inviting, filled with the key aspects of culture, including material in different languages, plants, art, music and books. The children are the caretakers of their classrooms and are comforted by its order and beauty.
Our outdoor learning environment is a key extension of our indoor classrooms and is of equal importance. Our playground areas, classroom patio, gardens and greenhouse offer our students countless opportunities to engage with nature.
